Worthing translator gains top professional status

Worthing business owner Lucy Brooks, of Lucy Brooks Translations, has this month been granted the status of Chartered Linguist (Translator). She is one of the first three people in the country to be granted this award, the Chartered Institute of Linguists only recently having invited applications, following the granting of its own Royal Charter status in 2005.

In the interests of the public and all those who make use of language services and under the terms of its Charter, the Chartered Institute of Linguists has the right to grant individual chartered status to professional linguists. A Chartered Linguist is a practising linguist who: exhibits the highest levels of competence, skill and professionalism, and has demonstrated his or her ongoing commitment to maintaining and developing these skills.

Lucy trained in London (Diploma for Linguists in Commerce and Industry), She attended Commercial School in Lübeck , Germany , and the Sorbonne in Paris . She also lived in Spain for many years. She translates technical, industrial and commercial texts for a wide range of customers in Sussex , the United Kingdom , Europe, and even works with clients in the USA , New Zealand and Canada . She is also very active within the Chartered Institute of Linguists, serving on the Translating Division Committee.

On hearing that she was now a Chartered Linguist (Translator) Lucy said: " I am delighted and honoured that the Institute has granted me the status of Chartered Linguist (Translator). I consider myself a "nuts and bolts" translator working at the coal face of industry and commerce. My customers have learned to appreciate three things from me - w ell-honed target texts, translations delivered on time , and a professional attitude.

When you add to these attributes my proven background of experience, continuing professional development, and of course, translation skills, they all add up to a thoroughly professional and high quality service.
